About us

So this is us! We decided to pack everything up and head off on our trip around the world. We are a British couple, we met in 2010 and quickly decided that we both had an ambition see much more of the world than you see on your average holiday, and what better way to do it than to become world nomads.

It was a big decision to quit the life we knew and travel for a large chunk of time rather than taking a few months here and there. We did however recognise that we weren’t getting any younger and wanted to, for want of a better phrase, ‘get it out of our system’ before we settle down.

The main aim of the trip is to experience what the world has to offer, mainly in the form of three elements:

1. Eating
2. Travelling
3. Geeking out!

Numbers 1 & 3 come easy to us, but as this is our first time doing this big of a trip, number 2 might be a little harder to get used to.

This blog is somewhere to record and share our adventures with friends and family but would also love hints, tips and recommendations from fellow travellers who have either been there and bought the t-shirt or are currently buying one. If you are on Facebook, we’ll be posting our blog post links straight there, feel free to comment or ping us an email through the contact form below.

Thanks for reading, and see you around!

Matt & Heather (H&M – no relation to the clothing company…)

Hiya! I’m definitely eat with a hint of geek, I like to think of myself as a bit of a foodie so will be spending a lot of the trip searching out the best (and probably worst) food from around the world, I’m willing to try anything (as long as it’s not still alive!) and am hoping to be taking cookery classes here there and everywhere – there is no way I can go away for this length of time without being in a kitchen! Apart from the food, I’m wanting to generally just get involved and immerse myself in the different cultures, I just hope I can relax enough to let my guard down a little bit – nothing a few days at a Yoga retreat in India can’t solve I’m sure! Having only back-packed around North America before now, this trip is going to be a bit of an eye-opener but I can’t wait – there’s so much world to see out there…and the adventure starts now! Ello! I would like to say I’m the majority of the geeky side of the pair, although Heather is in a different way, numbers mainly! I’m on the techy, computing side of Geek Street. Being into anything technology based, this trip is a slight sideways step out of my comfort zone! I’m going to have to adapt to being offline! This said, I’m not letting the tech get in the way of the trip of a lifetime! The trip for me means having the ability to dip into another culture and experience life differently, who knows, I might ‘find myself’ as a dreaded plantain picker…! Like Heather I’ll be looking to sample as much of the local life as I can, aiming to stay on the beaten track whenever possible. This mainly takes the form of food based excursions, eating what locals eat (please send us suggestions of places to eat!), but also culture based experiences such as early morning T’ai Chi in Tokyo. All in all, very much looking forward to it! Ciao!!
